CHAIRMAN

COL(r) Michael Okita
Michael C. Okita is a Program Manager for Engility Corporation, providing training solutions and simulations support to the Department of Defense.

Today’s work in the defense industry follows a military career in Army infantry, airborne and special operations units.  After graduating from the University of Dayton ROTC program, Mike joined the 82d Airborne Division where he commanded and later in his career, served as Division Chief of Staff.  For more than two decades, he was fortunate to soldier in Infantry units, most notably in Alaska as Commander, 1 Battalion, 17th Infantry, as Commander, 2d Ranger Battalion, Fort Lewis, and as Brigade Commander, Joint Task Force Bravo, Honduras.

Mike’s staff assignments include duty as Chief of Strategy, Multi-National Forces Iraq, Chief of Staff, 24th Infantry Division, Chief of Staff, I Corps, and Executive Officer to the Multi-National Corps Commander, Iraq.  Of all the years in uniform, the most rewarding were spent under arms during operational deployments to Grenada, Panama, Haiti, and Iraq.

TREASURER

CSM(r) Mariano Leon-Guerrero
CSM (r) Mariano Roy C. Leon-Guerrero, also known as ‘LG’, was born and raised in the Mariana Island of Guam, U.S. territory, on December 6, 1948. Growing up, he was captivated by the stories his father shared of the struggles of the people and the tremendous feat and sacrifice the U.S. Armed Forces suffered liberating the island from the Japanese during WWII.

During the Korean conflict, his uncle and godfather, Jose Leon-Guerrero, a U.S. Army infantryman, visited on his way to Korea. He made the young toddler LG wear his garrison cap and taught him how to sharply salute to show pride, courtesy and respect. He executed the salute so well that his godfather remarked ‘you will make a fine soldier son’.

Sadly, his godfather was KIA and the flag draped casket with what appeared to be a massive gold padlock stamped with U.S. marking was brought home. The elaborate military funeral with marine platoon escort, marching band, gun salute, and taps made a lasting impression on the young toddler and a passion to become a soldier was born. On that day, he honored his uncle and godfather with a salute.

LG’s military career spanned from the Vietnam War to Operation Desert Storm. Among his numerous awards, he was most proud of the Ranger Tab, Combat Infantryman's Badge, and Master Parachutist Badge with Bronze Star. He served multiple tours with the 75th Ranger Regiment as Platoon Sergeant, First Sergeant, Command Sergeant Major and Regimental Sergeant Major. He is the only Command Sergeant Major to be selected to serve as the Sergeant Major for 1st and 2nd Ranger Battalions and the Ranger Regiment. Command Sergeant Major Leon-Guerrero has always "Set the example for others to follow" and "Led the Way." He was inducted into the Ranger Hall of Fame for his dedication and contributions to his country for over twenty-seven years in 1997.

After his retirement in 1993, LG was certified as a JROTC Army Instructor in 1994 and assisted in starting the program at Gov. J. R. Rogers HS, Puyallup School District. He received his BA degree and teaching certification in 1994 and 1995 respectively and taught social studies from 1996 to 2000. He earned his Master in Education degrees in Educational Technology, 1997 and Guidance and Counseling, 2001. From 2000 to present, he served as school guidance counselor for the district’s new HS, Emerald Ridge, when it opened in 2000. LG and his wife Jayne have four wonderful children and four grand children. LG and Jayne reside in the old town of Dupont.
